The position is responsible for the implementation, administration, and operational support of all IT platform services including, but not limited to, the design, automation, provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure technologies and services related to the organization’s server (Windows/Linux/VMWare) platforms. The position ensures that all system meet availability, performance, and security expectations.

Essential Functions 

  • Designs, installs, configures, administers, maintains, monitors, tunes, troubleshoots, and documents both physical and virtual servers running Linux and Microsoft Server Operating Systems
  • Assists with administration responsibilities including daily operational support of Active Directory account administration (including Group Policy), application administration, management of file and share permissions, monitoring of the integrity and availability of all server resources, and the review of system and application logs
  • Performs server administration duties related to Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) technologies including, but not limited to, software installation and maintenance, storage LUN administration, capacity planning, and troubleshooting including performance issues
  • Turns business requirements into supportable, scalable IT infrastructure solutions by recommending and implementing appropriate products and services
  • Assists with the technology roadmap, asset refresh schedules, and annual budget process to support these efforts
  • Develops and maintains documentation in the areas of architecture, processes, procedures, and inventory
  • Perform proactive maintenance and troubleshooting of all server environments (Dev, QA, Production, and DR) as necessary
  • Work with vendor support organizations on any support issues requiring their assistance
  • Supports network change activities in accordance with company IT change management processes
  • Supports after-hours on-call requirements, planned maintenance activities, and disaster recovery exercises.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience with the administration to the following Platform technologies including server operating systems, database, storage, backups, hyper-converged platforms, virtual hypervisors, virtual desktops, web and application servers, Active Directory, Group Policy, email, load balancers, web browsers, SSL certificates, DNS, DHCP, monitoring, and capacity planning.  
  • ITIL v3 Foundations certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Solid understanding of Linux and Windows server operating systems, MS SQL Server, EMC SAN, NetApp, Nutanix, VMware, Citrix XenDesktop, Apache, Tomcat, IIS, WebLogic, Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, and Citrix NetScaler.
  • Ability to analyze and solve both common and complex IT problems through reasoning, troubleshooting, and innovative thinking. Knowledge of tools for troubleshooting and monitoring of platform performance, including tool selection, design, and implementation for automated monitoring of platform equipment and advanced troubleshooting of applications.  Ability to troubleshoot applications by capturing and analyzing events with pertinent tools is required. 
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with all levels of management and vendors
  • Ability to convey technical concepts in a non-technical manner
  • High sense of ownership of the network environment with a customer service mindset
  • Ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment with shifting priorities while keeping stakeholders abreast of progress and expected completion dates for all assignments
  • Proficient user of office productivity software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint 
  • Understanding of ITIL best practices preferred
