Responsibilities

Job Summary

The primary duties of the Senior Agile Scrum Master include establishing and growing the use of Agile practices, supporting and mentoring Kanban and Scrum teams, and ensuring the efficient and effective execution of Agile methodologies including Scrum, Kanban and SAFe by meeting stated milestones and sprint goals (intended business and technical value). This will involve a strong commitment to collaboration and servant leadership to foster an atmosphere of exceptional teamwork and buy-in that delivers success for all involved and the organization. It will also require the ability to assess the Agile maturity of the team and the organization and coach the team to higher levels of maturity at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the company. Equal and objective representation of all business and technical constituents will be critical to build and maintain a high-level of trust. This role will be assigned some of the most challenging projects in the company and will require advanced Agile experience and relevant technical expertise to be successful, while ensuring an appropriate level of process adherence to drive the overall Agile transformation.

Essential Functions 

  • Focus on the principal pillars of planning, process, progress, and impediments 
  • Establish, document, and evolve Scrum/Kanban framework and supporting practices
  • Mentor and support all team members on Agile methods
  • Support the development of team standards, tools, and best practices
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of Agile related sections of the process playbook
  • Communicate Agile process standards and provide on-boarding and training
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and assist in process improvement 
  • Act as an ambassador for the team and all project stakeholders 
  • Support multiple Agile teams
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies 
  • Align sprints and Kanban boards with stated priorities of product owner’s roadmap and technical dependencies
  • Host sprint planning based on required inputs and outputs 
  • Facilitate team skills-based planning 
  • Ensure proper use of ROM and LOE estimation techniques (points or hours) 
  • Perform resource capacity planning, velocity measurement, and stabilize resources
  • Lock sprints based on team’s commitment 
  • Remove team impediments while promoting self-organization 
  • Assist in the prioritization and resolution of defects/bugs 
  • Work with team to resolve all issues, escalate if additional support is needed 
  • Host daily stand-ups with the team 
  • Schedule and prepare for customer demos with team 
  • Schedule and host retrospectives 
  • Plan and coordinate releases and deployment activities
  • Protect team from distractions
  • Monitor progress through task/story completion, burn down charts and cycle time
  • Track and communicate team and individual velocity
  • Track and communicate sprint and release progress
  • Facilitate or assist in dependency management and cross team coordination
  • Maintain Sprint and Kanban management dashboard in tooling
  • Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution
  • Assist with internal and external communication and improving transparency
  • Ensure teams practice agile principles (collaboration, prioritization, accountability, transparency)
  • Assist in creating and maintaining process documentation
  • Facilitate or assist with product backlog grooming, prioritization and maintenance
  • Continue education in related disciplines
  • Provide needed inputs to Project Manager for planning, resource, and budget purposes
  • Partner with all project team roles and stakeholders
  • Perform special projects or duties as assigned


Job Requirements



Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum (4) years of Agile Scrum/Kanban experience 
  • Minimum (8) years of application development project experience 
  • Knowledge of project management and agile methodologies/concepts including Scrum, Kanban and SAFe
  • Knowledge of SDLC and common technologies / architecture / technical terminology
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and planning skills

  • Ability to build and sustain collaborative working relationships at all levels

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Four-year college degree or 10 years of IT work experience

License(s)/Certifications Required: 

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM)

License(s)/Certifications Preferred: 

  • Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) 
  • PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP)

Tool Experience Preferred:  

  • Atlassian development tools: JIRA, Confluence, Portfolio, etc. 
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Microsoft Project
