The Document Programmer/Analyst will be responsible for assisting with the implementation and ongoing maintenance of proprietary software designed for The General’s multi-channel communication solution. This will include working with existing code and designing new solutions for future integrations. Excellent organization and communication skills required as well as strong technical knowledge.

The programmer/analyst is responsible for design and development of code to support the General’s CCM implementation and must have full knowledge of the integrations.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Technical support and continued development supporting a customer communication management (CCM) system
  1. Maintenance of existing code
  2. New integration design and implementation
  3. Answering technical queries and assisting users
  4. System performance tuning
  5. Works with Document Architect/Admin on:

Disaster recovery planning and documentation
Creating plans for end to end, full system, integration testing
Creating plans for end to end, full system, UAT
Creating detailed plan for Go Live including smoke testing
Designing security model
Designing backup model for supporting databases
Assessing and planning future storage requirements (both database and file system)

  • Supports custom solutions to meet requirements.  The requirements will change with each new supplemental implementation.
  • Assists in gathering and authoring customer requirements for CCM related development projects.
  • Contributes to post-project reviews.
  • Solution design and analysis
  • Reviews project specifications to gain understanding of project goals and objectives and to determine an efficient and effective way of programming to complete the project in a timely manner.  Implementation patterns are expected to be reviewed by the Document Architect/Admin. Interacts with document analyst, document developer and/or business analyst to answer any questions regarding specifications and to establish a meeting with the project owner if warranted.
  • Develops software applications based on project specifications.  Works with QA on testing the programming changes before implementation to reduce the amount of errors and reduce rework within the department.
  • Interacts with end-users on solving problems that occur with document related applications including troubleshooting the problem.  Determines an appropriate course of action to rectify the problem with occasional guidance from the Document Architect/Admin.  Provides on-call support if necessary.
  • Stays abreast of industry changes with regard to software applications.  Communicates any suggestions/ideas for the improvement of applications to management and Document Architect/Admin.

VB .Net or C# .Net, 3-5 years preferred

VB Script, 1-3 years preferred

Java, JavaScript, 1-3 years preferred

MS SQL Server, 3-5 years preferred

DB2, 1-3 years preferred

tcServer, 1-3 years preferred

IIS, 1-3 years preferred

XML, 3-5 years preferred

  • Experience in administration of client server applications on Windows, Linux, Unix platforms is preferred
  • iSeries and/or SQL Server backend experience and strong understanding of stored procedures is preferred
  • Insurance industry experience preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office preferred
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and basic statistics
  • Ability to use and interpret information, which requires refining and improving existing methods of analysis for programming of software applications
  • Ability to provide oral and written communication regarding programming issues to all levels of personnel, vendors etc.
  • Ability to use innovative thought to develop ideas which result in improvements in existing methods, services or products
  • Ability to participate with other team members, including business analysts, to create programming specifications
  • Proven time management, judgment and organization skills

Education Requirements 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or computer related field preferred.
