The primary duty for a Business Analyst II is to elicit, interpret, and document business and functional requirements in order to provide our IT staff with the appropriate project specifications in the development of software. This will require this role to serve as a liaison between the business and the IT team while also advocating for both parties equally.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Translates and documents project requirements and business needs into testable, developer-ready requirements by partnering with project stakeholders.
  • Produces professional quality project artifacts, including but not limited to, business requirement documents, requirement plans (data, event, context, and process components), traceability matrices, use cases, flow charts, wireframes, issue logs and other artifacts as needed.
  • Works with technologists to ensure that project issues or impediments are quickly resolved. 
  • Follows requirements through to the implementation phase by clarifying specification questions and responding to items found during the development, testing and pre/post implementation phases.
  • Partners with project stakeholders to manage requirement change requests throughout the development lifecycle.
  • On Agile projects, ensures stability in requirements backlog and focus on MVP (minimum viable product), while respectfully challenging requirement additions that lead to scope creep.
  • Identifies and communicates risks as well as possible mitigation plans and/or solutions.
  • Assists the business in determining if and how new systems or system enhancements may improve business operations and/or contribute to the overall program’s goals and objectives.
  • Serves as a critical resource and liaison between subject matter experts and technologists throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Works with the business stakeholders to recommend appropriate training, communication and scheduling as systems are deployed.
  • Works with the project team to support testing (UAT), deployment, and product launch.
  • Secures document approvals from the appropriate project stakeholders.
  • Acts as liaison between the IT department and other user departments.
  • Works with other business analysts and the PMO to develop and adhere to enterprise analysis standards.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices/tools of the business analysis discipline and makes recommendations to consider practices/tools that will benefit the company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • At least 5 years of recent IT business analysis experience is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of application development project experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate both oral and written information to all levels of an organization
  • Ability to create high level and detailed business requirements, use cases and decompose those into functional specifications.
  • Knowledge of IT best operating practices and methodologies.
  • Effectively create and maintain requirements, data mapping, and other project documentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work utilizing waterfall methodology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work utilizing the agile methodology and scrum framework including backlog seeding, user story creation, acceptance criteria, and backlog grooming practices.
  • Knowledge of common technologies / architecture / technical terminology to ensure fundamental comprehension of technical requirements.

 Desired Experience/Skills

  •  Working knowledge of all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle including planning, designing, developing, testing, and releasing custom software applications.
  • Some knowledge of non-standard automobile insurance systems is desired.

 Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any computer related field (Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology etc.) or business administration is desired.

 License(s)/Certifications Preferred:

  • IIBA Certification
  • PMI PBA Certification

 Tool Experience Preferred:

  • Atlassian development tools: JIRA, Confluence
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
