Job Summary

The General® is looking for a UX Researcher to join our growing, energetic team in Nashville, TN. This role will plan and conduct evaluative research (e.g., card sort, tree testing, usability, heuristics evaluations) and support generative research (techniques to help define problem space, such as contextual inquiry, ethnography, data mining) efforts for specified products or program areas to build deep user understanding and empathy. We are seeking someone who cares deeply about research and is eager to improve their skills in a collaborative environment. The UX Researcher will contribute throughout the entire design cycle: brainstorming, researching, wire framing, prototyping, designing, and working with developers to turn mockups into functioning products.


Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of research methodologies, human factors, the user-centered design process, and statistics to improve our web and app experience design
  • Scope research projects and develop detailed research plans that outline the goals, hypotheses, participant characteristics and methods to be used
  • Work with the following areas (design, analytics, product owners, customer support, marketing, and sales) to formulate and address research questions
  • Help teams by synthesizing and communicating relevant research results
  • Support survey design and execution as well as perform statistical analyses
  • Undertake secondary research scans and comparative/competitive analysis
  • Create interactive prototypes for testing in research platforms like
  • Build test cases to validate and evaluate hypothesis and perform qualitative data analysis
  • Grow company-wide knowledge of internal research capabilities and benefits
  • May assist lead designers with the creation of low or high-fidelity mock ups
  • Manage and track your assignments and deadlines to stay ahead
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Experience/Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor’s/master’s degree in the study of user experience, design, research, business or related fields; for example, Information Design, Human Factors/HCI, Psychology, Cognitive Sciences.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in UX research and design
  • Experience conducting user interviews and usability tests
  • Experience using user research findings as a basis for ideation and improvement
  • Experience creating design deliverables including storyboards, user flows, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, and mockups
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiarity with Sketch, Abstract, UXpin
  • Exceptional layout, typography, and color theory skills
  • Firm grasp of responsive design and mobile user interface design principles
  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS/JavaScript
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and not-so-technical people. Ability to explain why a design works or why it doesn’t
  • Must be self-directed, confident and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Nice to have: an online portfolio of your best work
